In rare, quiet moments, far from the press of work and din of traffic, a person can look out at the world and see splendor and feel awe:  The lava ribs of Maui, clothed in yellow-green moss, rising vertically from an aqua sea; an Alaska brown bear leading a procession of her honey-blond cubs along a sandbank.

For a thousand years, landscape artists of Europe and Asia have sought to depict that splendor, as they remember it or imagine it, on canvas or in ink.  But a landscape photographer seeks to capture a moment of nature itself, as it exists and not as it is imagined .

A nature photographer does not have the leisure of a landscape artist to set up an easel and sketch and paint in the field or the studio, as his imagination permits.  Capturing a perfect image as it actually exists in space and time, is the core of his work and his artistry.  Bringing forth the essence of that image through skillful cropping and through adjustments to darkness, light, and color central to his craft.

Robert Plotz is such a photographer.  His goal is to capture the exquisite moments of nature, so clients will see his work and wonder, “Can beauty like this exist in the world?”
